In the few years I’ve had this site, we’ve never really had a convo about exercise. I guess I kinda figured it was a given that you guys realized I’m a California girl and here in Southern California working out is a religion for most.
I’ll admit that, having grown up here, I’ve gone off the rails at times and dieted dangerously or ran endlessly in vain attempts to look like the latest Hollywood “it” girl. It’s not something I’m proud of but it can be hard to avoid when you’re SoulCycle-ing or hiking next to some A-lister. These days I focus more on healthy eating like awesome salads and substantial sips like this Blueberry Banana Almond Butter Smoothie.
With some age, I’ve also gained some wisdom so I workout more for my health — both mental and physical — than for the hope of being ripped (though I’d be lying to say I wouldn’t mind finally having a flat stomach). But what I have realized is that: a) the more I work out the healthier I want to eat and b) nothing makes me happier after traveling than a quality workout.
This week, after returning from my weekend on the East Coast, I’ve been religiously going to Barry’s Bootcamp — a place I’ve frequented for years now — and sometimes the workouts are so hard, I need a post workout meal or a power nap after. Yesterday, I needed a bit of both so I blended up this Blueberry Banana Almond Butter Smoothie that’s by no means my original recipe but is a major staple in our house. It’s no magic potion for looking like Megan Fox but it sets me off on the right step after those workouts and keeps me on track for avoiding the Kettle chips — at least for now.
